Irish Flag Shot

About the Irish Flag Shot
The hardest of the three-color layered shots to pull off cleanly. The three liqueurs are close enough in density that a slow hand matters more than usual: green creme de menthe on the bottom (the densest), Baileys floated carefully in the middle, Grand Marnier on top. The visual payoff is one of the great layered-shot presentations when it works — three distinct bands in the Irish national colors — and a messy brown stripe when it doesn’t.
Chill every bottle hard; cold liqueurs stack much better. Pour each layer very slowly over the back of a bar spoon held just above the previous layer. The Baileys is the most delicate; even a hesitation can collapse it into the menthe below. Serve immediately; the layers hold about ten minutes before gravity wins. Triple sec in place of Grand Marnier is cheaper but less saturated gold. Perfect pour for St. Patrick’s or a game-day table. See the layering guide.
Substitutions
- Triple sec for the Grand Marnier.
