Mexican Flag Shot

About the Mexican Flag Shot
Named for the color sequence of the Mexican national flag: green, white, red. Midori goes in first for the green base. White creme de cacao floats carefully on top for the white middle band. Grenadine is poured very slowly — because it’s the densest ingredient — through the white band so it sinks and forms a red layer below the Midori, inverting the expected gravity in a way that photographs beautifully. The look is more memorable than the flavor, though the melon-chocolate combination is genuinely tasty.
Chill all three bottles before building. The dense grenadine sinks only if the other liqueurs are properly cold and settled; warm, they mix immediately. Pour the grenadine slowly directly into the center of the white layer so it finds its way down without disturbing the other bands. Any clear cream liqueur substitutes for the creme de cacao. A natural Cinco de Mayo pour. See the layering guide.

FAQ
